Blenheim Palace
Neverland and Light Trail Ashmolean Museum
Bodleian Library
The historic city of Oxford is renowned worldwide for its prestigious universities, museums and towering spires. Oxford is a beautiful city of stunning architecture from a variety of periods in British Architectural history since the 11th century. The university is what most people associate with the town, but it has also given its name to everything from the esteemed dictionary to a bitter marmalade!
Whilst in Oxford, we will take the opportunity to explore two ‘must-see’ attractions. The Oxford Covered Market, dates back to the 1770s and is now famous for being one of the oldest, continually operating markets in the country. The market offers a unique ‘one stop shop’ for specialist independent retailers, many of which are family owned businesses which have been passed through generations. A visit here is as far from a regular shopping experience as you can get. There are plenty of places to just enjoy a drink and relax as you soak in the unique market atmosphere. We will also have the opportunity to explore the vast collections and exhibitions at the Ashmolean Museum – the oldest public museum in the UK. We will be able to explore and learn about half a million years of human history and creativity!
The highlight of this short break away will be a visit to the magnificent Blenheim Palace. Situated close by in Woodstock, this country house, home to the Dukes of Marlborough and at one time Sir Winston Churchill is a must see! We will be able to see the delights of the Baroque architecture designed in the 1700. The Palace and gardens take on a whole new look that are sure to get you in the Christmas Spirit! The Palace will become Neverland and provide an opportunity to explore the state rooms through the eyes of a child as we follow Tinkerbell as she sprinkles her fairy dust over baubles and Christmas trees! As darkness draws in we will experience the delights of the illuminated trail. The 3km trail is filled with glowing light and seasonal sounds filling the air to create a magical festive experience.
