L’elisir d’amore at Garsington Opera
The Savill Garden & River Cruise
Greys Court
‘Wormsley Estate, home of the Getty family, has been home to Garsington Opera since 2011 after moving from its original location at Garsington House. The International Summer Festival is presented in a specially designed seasonal opera pavilion which allows views of the stunning, surrounding landscape. We will enjoy a performance of Donizetti’s delightfully poignant ‘L’elisir d’amore’ during our visit, as well experiencing the long interval dinner served in the glass fronted restaurant with splendid views over the countryside. Evening dress is suggested, along with the addition of a warmer layer to add as the summer evening cools.
This luxurious holiday also gives us the opportunity to enjoy a return River Thames boat cruise from historic Runnymede with a relaxed commentary and views of Windsor Castle and The Savill Garden. A guided tour will navigate us around the seasonal delights of the gardens as well as immerse us in the Royal history and heritage of the setting. There will be a visit to Greys Court, a charming 16th-century mansion and peaceful gardens set in the rolling hills of the Chilterns.

The hotel offers quiet spacious bedrooms, many with beautiful views over the gardens or the conservation area; all have en-suite facilities with walk in shower, bathrobes, luxury toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities. Itinerary
Day 1 – Monday 14th July
Brought by chauffeur-driven car to the Bull Hotel, you will be greeted by your Tour Manager, who will be available for you throughout your stay. On arrival refreshments will be available before we board the coach to Runnymede Boathouse for our River Boat cruise. Whilst on board, we will enjoy a relaxed lunch and commentary as we take in the views. On our return to the Boathouse we will disembark and board the coach to The Savill Garden, a 35-acre haven of gardens and woodlands. A guided tour will ensure we are immersed in the beauty and hear about the history of the garden as well as visit The Queen Elizabeth Temperate House, The Dry Garden and The Golden Jubilee Garden. Our visit will end with a cream tea in the visitor centre.
Day 2 – Tuesday 15th July
Following a leisurely breakfast in the hotel restaurant, we will board the coach for the short trip to Bekonscot Model Village. Tucked away from everyday life this wonderful little world is a visit back in time to see how England used to be in the 1930s. We will enjoy a talk about Bekonscot’s history and have time to view all that is on display. We will return to the hotel for a light lunch and some free to prepare for our visit to the Garsington Opera. On arrival at the Wormsley Estate, we will have time to look around the beautiful gardens, before finding our front stalls seats for the opera, ‘L’elisir d’amore’. During the long interval, we will experience Worsley’s fine dining with wine, in the beautiful surroundings of the glass fronted Wormsley restaurant. Looking out over the iconic Wormsley Cricket Ground, the restaurant boasts one of the most stunning views in Britain.
Day 3 – Wednesday 16th July
On our final morning, we will check out of our rooms after breakfast and store our luggage with the concierge, before boarding the coach to travel nearby Greys Court. Here we will have a free-flow visit of the National Trust property and take in the Country House originally built in the 14th-century and with views over the Chiltern Hills. There will also be time to wander the charming walled gardens, which have over 900 years of history. We will return to the hotel for our farewell two course lunch and time to reflect with friends about the holiday, before our door to door cars arrive to take us home.
