We are delighted to offer an opportunity for you to join us on the 2024 Gilbert & Sullivan themed adventure. We will be travelling on the luxury river boat ‘MS Infante don Henrique’ along one of Europe’s most breath-taking rivers – The Douro River.
We will take a leisurely cruise along the incredible Douro River, admiring the stunning landscapes, and terraced vineyards which produce some of the world’s best port wines. As we weave our way along the river we will get the opportunity to explore charming towns like Pinhão and Régua. Every night on board, we will enjoy a fantastic concert featuring Gilbert & Sullivan soloists along with some flamenco dancing and Portuguese Fado – a genre of music traced back to around 1820 in Lisbon.
We will board the MS Infante don Henrique in Porto, where we will have some time sightseeing and wine tasting before cruising to Vila Real, the largest city of the Vila Real District and known for its religious buildings and architecture. Our next stop will be Salamanca, the Capital of Salamanca province. It is known for its ornate sandstone architecture and its famous university. We will spend the morning cruising to Pinhão, a destination not to be missed with its stunning scenery, rich history and world-renowned production of port wine. Before we return to Porto, there will be a visit to Lamego a commercial town dominated by the 18th century church Nossa Senhora dos Remedios Sanctury.
The walking excursions are taken at a pace that is suitable, with two groups being available. The slower group will be slightly shorter and offer frequent stops and also have extra staff for anyone who wishes to peal off and return to the coach/ship. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
